It's nice to meet you, my name is Alice.
This website has a lot of information about the infant massage and baby sleep workshops that I offer. On this page you can read a bit more about me...
I have almost 20 years professional experience working with families who have a baby or young child. Throughout my career I noticed that the public health system often did not have the capacity or resources to meet the needs and requirements of many parents and babies. As a result I established Adagio Child to fill some of these gaps.
I am passionate about working with parents and their babies to establish and protect the bonding and attachment relationship.
My vision is to promote the health and well-being of parents and children in such a way that children’s earliest experiences of being parented establishes a solid foundation and blue-print for the child’s health and well-being throughout the remainder of their life.
Drawing from my professional background as a qualified Registered Nurse, adult educator and community development worker, Adagio Child focuses on developing and delivering parent education programs in infant massage and gentle sleep techniques.
“Adagio” is an Italian word that refers to slow, gentle and harmonious movements of music. This concept underpins all of of my work with families. Rather than telling you as a parent “what to do” or giving you the “right” answers, all education programs that I offer are delivered in a slow and relaxed environment. I aim to work in “harmony” with the needs of your family, and focus on encouraging and supporting you to find your own “rythym” by developing confidence and trust in your own skills and abilities as a parent.
Infant massage is the primary focus of what I do, because the effect of caring and nurturing touch between a parent and their baby is well-founded in the scientific literature as having a profound and life-long influence on a baby’s physical, social and psychological development.
I combine infant massage education with education programs in infant sleep, because this is a pressing issue for many new parents. Within the public health system, many of the sleep techniques offered and promoted can cause distress to both parents and babies, and can interfere with the fragile attachment and bonding process. Adagio Child provides parents with the opportunity to learn techniques that can be used to settle and calm their baby without distress, and in such a way that promotes rather than hinders each child’s healthy social and emotional development.
I am presently the only Registered Health Professional in the ACT who is a fully certified Infant Massage Instructor, and am the ACT Representative for the International Association of Infant Massage. My professional background allows me to work in such a way that reflects the latest scientific knowledge. At the same time, as an independent practitioner, I work first and foremost with a focus on the needs of each individual family, unconstrained by beureacratic procedures. This allows me to deliver a service that is flexible and responsive to the particular circumstances of your individual family - rather than offering a “one size fits all” approach.
The infant massage and sleep education services that I offer are supplemented with a small range of retail products which you can purchase on this website. I choose to stock only a small range of retail products which do not interfere with the parent-child bonding process and that, where possible, I can offer to you at less than retail price.
My qualifications and memberships include:
- Registered Nurse, ACT Nurses Board
- Certified Infant Massage Instructor (Member International Association of Infant Massage, and ACT Representative of the International Association of Infant Massage)
- Certified "Happiest Baby" educator
- Member Australian Association for Infant Mental Health
- Graduate Certificate in Health Education
- Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management (Trauma Recovery)
- Advanced Diploma in Project Management
- Cert. IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
Feel free to drop me a line. I look forward to hearing from you!
